CBZ is a file extension for comic book archives. CBZ files are used to store complete issues and chapters of comics, as opposed to CBR, which only stores individual pages. The format was developed by Ben Jones, but was originally released as an RAR archive with a .cbr extension. CBR and CBZ are commonly used in manga by websites such as Crunchyroll and MangaFox.
The format is open source and can be used to view comics on any device that supports the format.
